IV (conscious) sedation, or twilight sleep, is not a general anesthetic procedure that requires large doses, and in virtually all cases, patients have no unpleasant awareness or memory of experiencing discomfort during the procedure.

The drugs used for IV sedation procedure caused either partial or full memory loss(amnesia) for the period of time when the drug first kicks in until it wears off. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much of what happened. Many people remember nothing at all. So it may, indeed, appear as if you were "asleep" during the procedure.

In our office IV sedation is administered and monitored by Dr. Heath Snell.

Dr. Heath Snell completed his undergraduate studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Arizona State University. He then went on to pursue his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado School of Dentistry. While in Dental School, Dr. Snell received several honors and awards and was nominated into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.

Following dental school, Dr. Snell completed a one- year course of study in Advanced Education in General Dentistry where he gained the needed training to perform such complex dental procedures as placement of dental Implants and extraction of wisdom teeth. Because of this extra training, he is also certified to perform Oral and IV sedation.

When he is not working, Dr. Snell enjoys spending time with his wife, Chelsea and their five kids. He also enjoys athletics and photography, and he is active in his church and community.

Intravenous Conscious Sedation is when a drug, usually of the anti-anxiety variety, is administered into the blood system during dental treatment.
